CAT DEAKINS is an American cinematographer and filmmaker currently based in New York City, where she was born and raised, and Los Angeles.
Cat works in narrative, documentary and experimental film/video. She has an MFA from UCLA (Cinematography) and a BA from Harvard (Sociology).
She has also worked for years as a freelance photographer for many clients, including Rolling Stone Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, and Nokia.
Cat has received the Frederico de Laurentiis Memorial Award, two Mary Pickford Awards for artistic merit in documentary filmmaking, the Motion Picture Association of America Award, Lisa Weigand & John Orphan Fellowship in Cinematography, and a Harvard College Scholarship.
A short documentary Cat shot in Bolivia, El Alto: La Tierra en el Cielo (2006), aired on CNN en Español worldwide and was a finalist in the Concurso de Periodismo CNN 25 - Visión Latinoamericana, a competition for documentaries about the future of Latin America.
